I tutor high school students in math. Some students check in with me to make sure they are on track, or for some enrichment. Others need more intensive one-on-one sessions to ensure they understand the material. Especially with Grade 12, there is so much to cover.
Students can't necessarily meet with the tutor every day, and I want to help them grow their confidence and independence so they can solve problems on their own.
Being resourceful means having good resources, however!
These sites will help support you as you work through the course. You do not have to pay to access the core features and benefits of these websites:
Why it's helpful: It solves equations, and factors for you, even graphing functions! It permits all sorts of math inputs like your scientific or graphing calculator has, while understanding natural language inputs too. It gives lots of examples to help you understand how to solve a type of equation, or you can enter your own from your homework.
Why it's helpful: It also helps you solve equations, with calculator inputs and graphing functions - covering everything from pre-algebra, to algebra, matrices and vectors, functions, graphing, geometry, trigonometry, statistics and finance. It even does word problems. Symbolab not only does pre-calculus, but calculus too! It will help you with your physics and chemistry homework on top of all that! Like Wolfram Alpha, Symbolab can handle all sorts of symbols, and equations just like you see on your math homework in and in your textbook. It provides example problems with step-by-step solving to arrive at the solutions, and gives you extra practice.
Why it's helpful: I've been using Chegg since before it was a textbook and homework help service. They've launched an AI math equation assistant, that, like Symbolab, can solve, graph etc. It understands typical algebra and pre-calculus characters and formatting. You can even upload a picture and it will use character recognition, saving you the time of entering the problem manually.
Why it's helpful: It also has scientific and graphing calculator functions. It can graph all the relations and functions we see in high school math. It allows you to manipulate, and zoom in or zoom out, to better understand the graph. The 4D direction arrows allow you to move the grid (changing scale and along the X or Y axis) without moving the function.
Why it's helpful: It provides lessons on most of the topics covered in high school math. The solutions are explained, and presented in both written and video form.
Parents: if you need an experienced math tutor for private sessions with your son or daughter, give me a call at 604-330-6977 or email me at whiterockbctutor@gmail.com.
